Twice Clothing Review

I first discovered Twice a few weeks ago by clicking on an add for the site on Facebook (which is something I never do). I was shocked I had never heard of the company before! Twice is an online resale store. Most items are gently used clothing, but some items are still new with tags. And the brands they offer are exceptional — were talking Anthropology, J. Crew, Ann Taylor, Free People, Madewell, Gap, etc. Not to mention all items are marked down 70% to 90% off their original retail price! And of course, because Twice offers gently used clothing, that means you can send in old items from your closet! They only accept "classic brands" off their accepted brands list, but you will get paid for items they decide to sell (instead of having to wait for it to sell to get paid)! They will even send you a free shipping kit to help you clean out your closet.

I ended up picking out six items for my first purchase from Twice. I was surprised by how much some of these pieces were marked down! Especially since two of them were new with tags (the limited skirt and zara top). I did end up sending half of them back, though, rather unfortunately. I kept the Ann Taylor Loft dress and skirt and The Limited skirt. I would have kept the pants, but they were a little to small in the waist — which was really a bummer, because I've been wanting a pair of black corduroy pants for a long time and they were such a good price and in pristine condition. The Zara top looked cute online but was an immediate no when I tried it on; it made my boobs and shoulders look super weird. The piece I was really disappointed about was the Lucca Couture dress. The pictures on Twice made it look super comfy, structured, and in great condition. None of those things were true. I should have noticed before buying that it was made out of viscose, but even still that dress felt like nothing close to viscose to me. The material was atrocious, the fitted waist stretched right over my belly and looked rather stretched (and sheer) and lumpy on (and was super itchy).

Regardless, I was super happy with this first purchase from Twice and will definitely buy from them again. The free returns does help out a lot, too! The pieces I did keep were so nice and I've worn them all already. I wore the Ann Taylor dress immediately the day it arrived and didn't take it off for days because it is so comfortable and effortlessly stylish and pretty. They are all pieces that will become staples in my wardrobe. And let's talk a minute about how much I saved! The Ann Taylor Loft dress was originally priced at $84.49, and Twice priced it at $27.95. The Limited skirt was originally priced at $68.99 and Twice priced it at $18.95. The Ann Taylor Loft skirt was originally priced at $58.98 and Twice priced it at $9.95. Now, I also had a promo code for 50% off my order so really I paid $13.97 for the dress and $9.48 and $4.98 for the skirts or about $28 total for the pieces I kept! That's almost $200 worth of savings. For the quality of the pieces, I feel like this was a steal!

June Wishlist: Summer Dreamer

crop top / skirt / dress / sandals / lights / feather print / plant

I am excited for summer and all the opportunities warm weather brings. I'm just not ready for the melting heat. I think a pretty skirt or dress would make me feel better about it :) Now that I'm working out regularly, my upper body is getting fairly toned; I'm ready to show off my hard work with a crop top or a backless dress. I'm also desperately wanting a new pair of casual sandals. My poor Cachos are getting pretty worn and don't always go with everything. Despite the heat, this time of year usually has me feeling inspired. I've been inspired lately by plants and all that is growing and blooming around here. We've got lots of plants in this house, but there is always room for more. Another thing I have quite a bit of is feathers; I've been collecting little pretty ones for quite a while. I'm always looking for ideas for what to do with them. I'd also like to add some nice lights to our room (perhaps a DIY?). We had some string lights in our bedroom in Moscow and they were the perfect ambiance that I am missing.

What are you wishing for or dreaming about doing this summer? Just about every bone in this body if mine is aching for some adventure. I want to spend all day outside with a sun hat and a flowing skirt. We're hoping to take another camping trip here soon with some dear friends; that may just satisfy me for a while.

DIY Lace Cuffed Shorts

I absolutely love cut-off jeans. Not only are they thrifty, it is a great way to save a beloved pair of sad old jeans. I think I only have one pair of jeans that aren't cut-offs, so I'm always looking for ways to change them up or pretty them up. I've wanted a pair of lacy shorts for a while, and well, I finally got around to it. See how I transformed these old jeans into shorts below.

DIY Lace Cuffed Jean Shorts:

1. What you'll need:  And old pair of shorts or jeans, lace, scissors, thread and a sewing machine
2. Begin by trying on your jeans and think about where you want them to hit when they are finished. Be sure to allow for a cuff, so add about an inch from wear you want them to be. Mark the length where to cut with a sharpie. Then take them off and cut! A good way to get even sides is to simply fold the jeans in half.
3. Undo the seams a bit to create a bit of a gap. This step isn't necessarily need, but I found it helped having a little extra room when stitching on the lace. I did end up closing the gap at the end.
4.  Decide what kind of lace you want to add. I decided to go with a more delicate, sheer lace versus the other crocheted type I had. Also determine how much lace you want to show when you cuff your jean shorts.
5. Turn the shorts inside out and using a zig-zag stitch, sew the edge of the lace in line with the end of the shorts, letting a little of the scallop hang over.
6. Turn the shorts right side out and fold the ends over, creating a cuff. Making sure the lace is completely folded under into the jeans and laying flat, again use a zig-zag stitch to sew the cuff down. I also went back and stitch the top edge (the scallop part of the lace) down from the front, for durability.

Done! Real simple sewing, even beginner sewers should be able to do this just fine :) Now that I've made these, I'm feeling all inspired and keep thinking of other ways to add some flair to other pairs of cut-offs. So look out! I really do love how these turned out. I think they are just the right amount of cutesy for me. I'm wearing them right now in fact.

With that, I leave you. Will and I are off to a camping trip for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary! See you Monday, lovelies.

May Wishlist

one / two / three / four / five / six / seven
The warm weather has quickly come upon us here in Boise. It already has my thinking of (and slightly dreading) summer. So instead of focusing on the heat, I'm brainstorming all the fun things to do outside now that the weather is nice. I am craving adventure constantly. Will and I love canoeing, and being near the water in general. It would be so so lovely to have our own. They are just a little pricey, even the cheap ones, like this one. Whether or not we get our own canoe, I'm sure we'll spend a lot of time this summer down by and on the water. I'd love a larger pack, too, for backpacking trips in the sawtooths. I also really need to get some new workout gear. Mine is a little outdated and sparse, and it is just not keeping up with my new workout routine :) I listed a few other hopefuls above that are to die for. I'm loving the scalloped trend that is going around. It's so cute and feminine. And I've wanted a pair of Saltwater Sandals, for, like, ever. I may just buy some this year.

Thrifty Thursday: My Spring Threads

I thought it would be fun to share with you something I actually wear (quite a lot) with you for Thrifty Thursday today instead of my usual post of things I'm lusting for. And also share with you every picture of myself with my hand on my hip. I obviously know only one pose.

I love clothes and fashion, but the truth is I just don't get new stuff very often. I have a tendency to wear pieces until they are completely worn and torn. I still own and wear some clothes I had in junior high! And they are in fairly decent shape. When I do buy new clothes, I will only buy things if they are a great deal. For instance, that cardigan in this post I got at Old Navy, but I waited until it was marked down a few times and ended up getting it for $2! My Chacos I also found on sale when I lived in Moscow (they usually go for $90-$100).

When buying new things I also try to go for things I now will stay in style for quite some time. The skirt I am wearing is actually fairly new. The high-low trend and the maxi skirt trend are both trends I've loved and they seem to be sticking around a while. I love this skirt, because it accomplishes both subtly, but isn't too trendy. I can see myself wearing this for years. And the cool colors are so classic. I found it at a DownEast Basics discount store in Meridian, ID for $12!

Although I have had most of these items for years, I still thought it would be fun to add up the different prices I paid for them:

Skirt: DownEast Basics, $12 on sale
Tank Top: hand-me down, free
Cardigan: Old Navy, $2 a few years ago
Shoes: Chacos, $45, a few years a go
Headpiece: DIY
Total Outfit Costs: $59

And, of course, to make up for that hand-on-hip extravaganza:

Swimsuit Shopping

I bought a new suit today! Well sort of two. And I know what you're thinking, "Really? Already? You don't even like summer..." But I couldn't resist. I was looking around for some good deals on suits. I've been sporting a plain brown bikini for awhile, and while I plan on keeping that one, I wanted a new one that would fit well and be a little more fun. ASOS has some great deals on swimwear! But you kind of have to dig through the sale section (or select your sizes from their 'refine by' side bar), as you may not be able to find the same top and bottoms in the sizes you need. But you might just luck out. And it's great if you love to mix and match!
I fell in love with these high-waisted bottoms when I saw them, I've wanted high-waisted bottoms forever and the print is so lovely. Since the matching top no longer had my size in stock, I simply found some plain tops I thought would be fun to pair them with. The best part is ASOS has free returns (and free standard shipping), even on their sale items! That takes some of the stress out of buying a swimsuit online, without being able to try it on. Did I mention I got a great deal on all of this?

The bottoms, originally $26.60 I got for $9.98. The black bandeau top, originally $24.94 I got for $12.47. And the white bikini top, origianlly $29.93 I got for $14.13. With free 6-Day shipping, that brought my total to $36.58! For quality pieces, that is a good deal in my book.

I'll let you know how my bottom and tops fit when they arrive. Woot, new suit! (See what I did there?)

What do you think of my pairings!? Do you like the black or the white top better?
