Little Notes Birthday Card | Free Printable

Will's birthday was about a week ago, and we celebrated it simply (but lovely) as per usual. After making the little booklet 25 Reasons Why I Love You instead of a card for Will's birthday last year, I wanted to do something equally as cute and sentimental. What better day do you have to show the person you love just how much you love them — in a cute way — than on their birthday?! You know, in addition to Valentines and anniversaries and any day you feel like it, of course!

I first thought of making a little booklet again, but full of love notes and memorable pictures, like this Love Notes Photo Book. But then I thought of making little envelopes for each love note and the idea took off from there! I thought the result was super cute! But I kept the design really simple, too. I think you could use this card for several people, not just your significant other (as long as you're cool with calling them darling). You can fill the envelopes with whatever you fancy, not just love notes. Like confetti! Or folded pieces of money! Or a gift card (you'd need a bigger envelope....)! You know, birthday type things :)

Get the link to the free template, and see how I made this card, below!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

✓ the card template (download to print ➞ here)
✓ the mini envelope stencil (download to print ➞ here)
✓ different colored papers to make the envelopes
✓ a glue stick
✓ masking or washi tape (optional)
✓ scissors
✓ pens, markers, etc. in various colors

WHAT TO DO

1. Print the card template and the envelope stencil
2. Fold the card in half — there is a line down the center on the template to make this easier
3. Cut out the envelope stencil
4. On various colored pieces of paper, trace the envelope stencil
5. Cut out your mini envelopes (6 in total)
6. If desired, draw patterns on some of the envelopes
7. Fold the envelopes and secure the sides — I found it easiest to tape the sides and bottom of the envelopes together (on the inside, so the tape is not seen)
8. Glue the envelopes into place on the card — there are spots designated by rectangles to make this step easier and to get perfect spacing
9. Take your envelope STENCIL and cut the folded bits off (so you have just the rectangle remaining)
10. Use this small rectangle piece as a stencil to cut pieces of paper to slide into the envelopes
11. Fill the envelopes with notes, or whatever you desire
12. If you have difficulty keeping the envelopes closed, use little bits of masking or washi tape to secure them
13. Write a message on the inside of the card, too. and you're good to go!

Happy card making and birthday celebrating!

Today is my birthday and I'm taking the day off to do fun things like go ice skating, walk around the art museum, eat lots of food, and skip around in the snow. I'm not really one to get too excited about my birthday, or celebrating it, but for some reason I've been really looking forward to it this time around. Maybe it's because the snow has stuck around long enough for pretty scenery today? I think it's just for me.

I put together, in advance, a little post so you can feel included in the celebrations a bit too? Or maybe just so you can learn pointless facts about me. That's always fun, right?

10 RANDOM FACTS YOU DON'T REALLY NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ME:

  1. Right now I am reading A Dance with Dragons. That's not anything interesting, but the fact that I'm being really silly and limiting myself to just two chapters a night, is. I know it's ridiculous; I'm dragging it out as long as possible. I don't want to finish too fast because the next book isn't out yet.
  2. I should probably just finish it though, because my reading list has been growing by crazy amounts lately thanks to my frequent listening of the podcast Sword and Laser. Give my all the Sci-Fi and Fantasy, please!
  3. I think my all time favorite Sci-Fi film is still Moon. I have a lot of favorites but that takes the cake. Perfect Film.
  4. I may celebrate my birthday a few times because THE HOBBIT THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG COMES OUT ON FRIDAY. I'm so excited. That's actually what I did for my birthday last year, saw The Hobbit. I have to stick to tradition, right? I'll probably hit up Denny's for their Hobbit menu after the movie, because yes I'm in to stuff like that.
  5. I love ice skating SO MUCH. It's what I'd ask to do every year on my birthday growing up. Luckily my mother was more creative than me and I had quite a variety of birthday celebrations over the years. Today is the first time I'll be skating at an outdoor rink, though. It's the major reason I wanted to go and one of the reasons I'm so excited for today.
  6. Speaking of skating, I love all forms — this includes roller skating and roller blading. I have a secret fantasy of joining a roller derby. I think I may go thrifting for some roller blades and get good use of them down on the greenbelt when the weather is warmer.
  7. My absolute favorite food is Massaman Curry, with Tofu and veggies.
  8. I am, without a doubt, a night owl. I just thrive better when the world is quieter, I think. That is also why I love winter (well one of the reasons), everything is so silent and still.
  9. In case I haven't gotten it across already, I am so happy the snow stuck around a few days for me. I love snow on my birthday, but I can only think of one other time (if my memory is right, and it usually is) in Boise that I had snow on my birthday. I think that is ridiculous. I, however, always had snow for it in while living in Moscow.
  10. I miss living up North. I'd love to live in Northern Idaho again. My ultimate dream would be to settle down in BC, though. I'm just really obsessed with Canada. It's silly. Let me live in you.

Those were really random; I just went with the flow. Don't think I'm crazy, please.
Happy Birthday to myself. Thanks for being lovely and here and reading this and all those good things I love you for.

With both my birthday and Christmas just around the corner, I've been hearing that "What do you want?" question a lot. And also the question, "Don't you hate having your birthday so close to Christmas?" No. I don't. Let's set the record straight once and for all, I love it I love it I love it. And yes, I even loved it growing up. Having a birthday during the busy holiday season meant that my birthday was always celebrated a little more casually, which I was/am a fan of. I'm just a laid back kid, small parties or no parties to celebrate my birthday is perfect for me. Also, why wouldn't I want my birthday to fall during the most wonderful time of the year? I absolutely love the holiday season; everyone is so damn cheery. Having my birthday thrown in there, too, makes it is all the better. I'm lucky that my birthday falls nicely about halfway between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Just another reason to keep the celebration going.

So here is a little collection of things I wouldn't mind adding to my collection of things. I am actually in serious need of a new satchel (mine is coming to pieces) and a sturdy pair of gloves. The rest is mainly just things that have been on my wishlist for awhile (especially those books). Because there's nothing wrong with wishing, right?
