Summer Hair & New Things

My life seems to be full of many changes at the moment. I've been feeling a bit exhausted adjusting to a new schedule — while trying to keep at (and add in more) things I enjoy — but also feeling very happy. A new job, a new site to launch soon, and a new season, why not throw in a new look too! To be fair, I've been wanting to cut my hair into a pixie again since cutting off the length last fall, but something seemed to be holding me back. After this last long weekend, with summer like temperatures, I finally felt it was time to get out my scissors again.

This cut took me four hours to do — and I had to wait for Will to get back home from work to finish — as it is a bit difficult to check the back for uniformity on your own (especially when you're blind in one eye). When I started cutting, I wasn't sure how short I wanted to go. I just cut slowly, judging and deciding as I went until I reached a length I was happy with. I still think this is a little long, by my standards at least, and after wearing it for 3 days now I'm considering trimming it (at least the sides) a bit more for easier styling. But I love it. And I loved it immediately. It feels very light, classic, and me. I think it will be the cut to wear all summer long.

What do you think? Have you ever cut off your hair for the summer? Do any of you cut your own hair too?

  1. Emorie, I love your haircut so much! I wish I had the guts to cut my own (I just don't have the patience to take it slow.) Since cutting mine to a pixie 2 months ago, I can't ever see myself going back long again. It's so much easier to style and automatically looks chic. I'll probably go even shorter next time I get a trim!

  3. what? I had no idea you were blind in one eye (or did I just forget?) I have a friend who is like that and she has no depth perception. love learning things about you. Also, you are lovely, as usual.

  4. I am digging your new do so much! I definitely know the feeling of wanting to cut your hair short because of the summer-like weather. I got mine cut a couple of weekends ago and am definitely glad I did because Vegas triple digit weather was not cutting it if I had the longer hair. I tried cutting my hair once but failed miserably. When you don't have someone checking the back of your hair for you. You can really mess it up. Glad you waited for Will to come back.

PS. How do you like your new camera?

Amazing job on the hair! It looks gorg! And major congrats to all of the awesome things happening in your life! Super happy for you! I've only ever cut my hair super short one time, and it was a curly little fro, which I loved at the time. It was because I needed my hair to be healthy again so I basically started over. However, now that it is long again, I'm thinking its here to stay. My hair takes forever to grow (that's just the nature of being a black woman, lol) and I feel like long hair is my thing. But, everyone has their thing, and I did enjoy the short hair while it lasted!

  7. The new camera is so so lovely! It has been attached to me since getting here — I take it out almost everyday. But I love most that it is instantly improving the quality of pictures I share here on my blog! <3

  8. I also have no depth perception, haha. I'm constantly bumping things and breaking things because of it. So many mugs lost — so sad. I also get startled very easily, all you have to do is approach me from the back on the left side. And thank you <3
