Wanna Tell Me About Yourself?

image via Unsplashed | edited by me

Just a heads up: I talk about depression in the first two paragraphs. If that makes you uncomfortable, feel free to skip below to see some questions I have for you!

I said it before, but I'm going to say it again: I've been feeling a little disconnected from my blog lately. There are a lot of changes I want to make to this space but am unable to do so just yet. I'm the type of person who likes to do things completely and to the best of my ability or not at all. This is leaving me feeling pretty stuck with the current state of my blog — which can obviously be quite a creative rut. It gets even more complicated when you top off that sad stack with a nice bout of depression.

I know I've talked about my depression on here before but it's a little more difficult to do so when you are at such a low. I'm not sure why I experience depression severely in the summer, particularly (on average), but it's been getting to the point this time around that I'm considering getting some extra help again. I'm tired of having so many ideas but absolutely no motivation or energy or desire to do them. I want to create again and post again and feel normal feelings again. Above all else, I want to write again. I always thought, "You know, when I'm depressed, at least I can write about that." But I can't write at all. In fact, I've wanted to put this post together all week and am just now finally finding a reason to do so.

I may feel disconnected from this space a bit, but I don't have to be disconnected from my readers and the wonderful community of bloggers I happily call friends. We all are always talking about how great this community this, and for good reason. I feel supported here. I feel comfortable here. I feel inspired here. I share quite a few bits of myself here with you, and I've gotten to know quite a few bits about some of you, too. But I'd love to get to know some of you even more! Especially if you haven't commented before or aren't a blogger yourself.

Jess (Foreign Room) recently shared a post with questions for her readers and I just couldn't get over how wonderful of an idea it was. So I'm here today with some questions for you! Please feel free to answer some or all of the questions.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

  1. Depression - I feel you, girl. It isn't easy, and I empathise with you so, so much. I really do hope that when you find extra help (if you do) it is beneficial for you. Stay strong, you've made it this far! x

+ I'm happy for my psychical health, my boyfriend, my family, Naturally Jes, and meditation!
    + I actually don't know!
+ Anywhere coastal. I love the sea.
+ Orange is the New Black - it's pretty rad.
+ Take photographs professionally, or play guitar.
+ Both, tea, beer, and fruits. :)
+ If I had 30 minutes of free time, I would meditate or read.
+ I've wanted to be a photographer or a counsellor - and currently I am working on my photography, and I am studying counselling. Win-win!

    This was actually really enjoyable.
Thank you for doing this. Made me smile. :) x

  2. Hi Sarah!

Depression is definitely a bit taboo to talk about, as are all mental illnesses. I'm hesitant to do so here, always, but every time I do I've had reassuring comments and people approach me from similar situations. That helps a lot. It sure is a lot easier to talk online about it than in real life, though (except with my boyfriend). There are so many people in my life that have no idea that it is apart of who I am. But there is also the stigma — I don't want anyone to think differently of me just because I have depression and anxiety.

I'm sorry you are going through so much right now. I definitely been in a very similar situation (until rather recently, actually) and know how hard it can be just to do daily tasks when you feel like there is not much going on for you besides what is in the home. The best thing I found was to try and keep a simple routine (of things around the house, like you said above), keeping active, and celebrating small accomplishments. Like good job me, I got out of the house today and ran errands even though I really really didn't want to and hated it the whole time and had tons of anxiety about it. But I did it! Go me! That's huge! I always benefit from positive reinforcement from myself :)

I LOVED all of your answers! You stole my heart with The X-Files; it was my favorite show as a kid because I would watch it with my dad. And it's still a favorite today! I love watching it on Netfix from time to time. Scully is my spirit animal. Also, Orange is the New Black is amazing and perfect. And Gilmore Girls!?! Gilmore Girls fixes everything. Lorelai was such a good character to choose, that woman is a role model for sure.

I would love to visit Ireland. Someday, maybe I'll have money to really travel and you can sure bet Ireland and Scotland and many parts of Scandinavia will be at the top of the list. I really loved reading this, thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions! And if you ever decide to blog again I'd definitely be reading it!

  3. I want to live on the coast too, in either Washington or British Columbia. I dream of temperate weather and summers that aren't terribly hot and lots of rainy days and daily sunsets on the beach! So lovely.

I love Orange is the New Black. Maybe I should just binge watch it again starting from the first season!

It's so cool that you are pursuing things you are passionate about! Your photography is beautiful. Counseling is something I've always been interested in and something I think I would really enjoy doing.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions Jes!

  4. Emorie--I can relate to your feelings of depression and anxiety 1000000% because that's how I've been feeling 1/2 of the month. I find that when I am feeling rather off--my creativity gets shot to pieces. I've taken a few weeks away (with random posts here and there) to post on my blog. But for the most part. I've been taking care of myself.

I am also considering turning this into a Q&A video too!

+ Camping, Showers, Cuddling, Adventures and Chocolate.
+ I recently purchased a few summer dresses and they've become my staple outfit for days I don't feel like struggling to put pants on.
+By the beach because well it's been my dream.
+ It is what it is. Life happens.
+ I have been watching a Korean Drama for the past few weeks on Netflix.
    + To be more patient.
+ Tea over Coffee. Hard Apple Cider and Sangrias. Juices that I can combine fruits + veggies.
+ In college I hosted dinner parties and game nights. Everyone brought a drink and dish and we'll eat and talk.
+ Mostly Photography & Lifestyle Blogs.
+ Elizabeth Bennet. NO QUESTIONS ASKED>
+ Sit in a quiet room and recharge.
+ I wanted to be a successful woman doing something I am very passionate about and I still do want the same thing.

  6. If I could be a fictional character for a day I would be Meredith Grey from Grey's Anatomy! I love her so much and I would get to be with McDreamy! haha.

When I was younger I wanted to be a psychologist when I grew up. I did minor in psychology in college and still toy with the idea of getting a second degree in psychology just because I find it so interesting.

Five things I'm most happy about right now: 1. seeing old friends this past weekend. 2. Photography. 3. My pup. 4. Having great friendships. 5. Reading good books.

  9. I like Cristina, too - but Meredith gets McDreamy! Lol - I would also go for being Lexie so I could have McSteamy! hahah

  12. I loooove love love embroidery! It's something I've always loved doing but have never done to seriously — mostly just quotes and florals and a few free hand things. What is your embroidery project going to be? Oh, and Ireland is a great pick. I've never been but it's beautiful and I can only imagine how lovely it must be in person.

  13. I am working on a really cool project! One of my dearest friends lost her grandmother last year and recently at her estate sale I found a couple of barely started embroidery projects. The one I started is a very early 90's bouquet of flowers. Her grandmother attached really detailed notes for the parts she had completed, which probably contributed to how little she did finish. I picked out much brighter colors and will probably frame it and give it to my friend. It's my biggest project to date and I'm thrilled that I haven't lost interest yet.

I completely understand where you are coming from on a depression standpoint. I myself have had seasons with the black dog following closely behind me. When I fall into the dark hole I suffer in a very similar way. I can't find reason to do any of the things I love. I skip out on opportunities, my desires, and my creativity seems to completely vanish. I hope that designing gives you a sense of accomplishment and drive. You are so talented and you have so much to offer.

+my new hair-do, that I get to marry my best friend in a week, the support I have from friends and family, I'm keeping my houseplants alive, and collaborating with you!
+my wedding dress (even though it's not very comfortable to wear for a long time)
+this one is tough, there are so many places I want to live in someday, but right now my hope is to get up to the PNW. I love it so much up there.
+It's silly but I learned how to directly link my blog in comments as a click-through
+I'm obsessed with Twin Peaks, it's definitely worth trying out, but not for everyone.
+I would learn ballet. I feel like its too late to really start, or I'm just too embarrassed to be the oldest person in a beginners class here.
    +vanilla, coffee, wine, and fruit.
+When I turned 16 my mom threw me a surprise party and my whole family was there. I had to go back outside to dry my eyes. I was filled to the brim with joy.
+I love keeping up with The Dainty Squid and Skunkboy.
    +I would be Carey Bradshaw.
+30 minutes of free time means an episode of Girls, yoga or a walk with my dog.
+Growing up I really wanted to be a fashion designer, I would draw sketches of ideas all day. I was like 8.

Thanks for sharing this great post. It was lots of fun pondering.
